In explaining the segregation described by us, however, we are inclined to speculate analogically that body colors are part of the social signaling system and that claw coloration is used for species recognition and carapace color patterns for individual recognition. The closest to the water were the sand-colored, left-clawed crabs, while the farthest up the beach were the yellow-colored, right-clawed crabs during low UV radiation index, we observed purple-colored, left-clawed crabs, while during high radiation UV indexes we observed brown-colored, right-claws crabs. 21, N = 384) and is consistent with their daily activity. We found that right-clawed crabs are lighter colored (i.e., yellow, sand) than left-clawed crabs (brown, purple) (β-coefficient ±SE = 0.26☐.07, Z = -3.46, p = 0.0005, R2 = 0. We spent a total of 21 days between 27 June and 31 August 2021 at the beach observing the crabs for a total of 80 hrs. The Red Sea Ghost Crab (RSGC) is endemic to the Red Sea and in Israel is found only at one beach.
